Sweden’s most beautiful and richest band tradition is preserved in the Leksand folk costume and is protected by UNESCO as unique World Heritage. Band weaving is a proud tradition in Dalarna. You can book a workshop and learn more about these unique bands in our studio in Siljansnäs, Sweden.
Band Weaving Taster 4 hours Beginner
Are you a curious beginner or just a bit rusty? Sign up for a Taster for crafting Leksand bands. The loom is pre-warped and ready-to-go with a self patterning band. Learn how to weave with half-heddles and handle the band knife. Small groups ensure you receive individual assistance. Suitable for children from 8 years and up. Great multigenerational activity.
Band Weaving Workshop 1 day Traditional
We cover the basics of weaving pick up patterns on a ready warped Leksand bandloom. Weave the 7-end black and white band, traditionally used for the womens bodice or for the mens hat band. Pre-warped loom and material included. Learn more about Leksand band tradition and Leksand costume.
Band Weaving Weekend
Customize your everyday shoes/boots by designing your own shoelaces. After mastering the basics of band weaving, you can enjoy the wonderful flow and ease that the craft provides. A travel-size band weaving heddle is included, so you have the option to continue weaving from the comfort of your home after completing the class.
Leksand Bandloom Weekend
Learn the secrets of a well managed warp. Warping a Leksand loom is easy, when you know how to. The Leksand band weavers have developed easy to use methods for warping and managing the intricately patterned bands with up to 200 ends in thin silk. You can purchase materials on site.
Bring your own Leksand bandloom or borrow a bandloom with treadle when you attend.

Traditional bands can be used for more than folk costume. Weave a unique bracelet, individualize a key ring or personalize your shoelaces. However, should you prefer to weave a band for traditional folk costume, there are patterns and materials for that project as well.
